The oldest Mandolin I've ever worked on, dated 1890!!
Joseph Bohmann was an award winning master craftsman from Chicago who modestly called himself "The world's greatest musical instrument maker".
The inside label has a picture of Joseph and the 306 State Street, Chicago address which puts this at the 1890-1893 mark. My client bought it at a yard sale in the windy city for $10, they retail at a substantial amount these days, if you can find one that is.
I've polished up the brass tuner plate and bridge post, a french polish friendly wax and a set of fresh strings!
